FAQ's



How do I set up/change/cancel an appointment?
You can reach Dr. Tsoi's receptionist at (510) 792-3595 to set up or change an appointment. If you would like to cancel an appointment we ask that you give the office 48 hours notice. There can be a fee of $25.00 to $50.00 for last minute cancellations (less than two working days).

How do I get to the office/hospital?
The Fremont office is located at 2287 Mowry Ave., Suite G. To get to the Fremont office take 880 to the Mowry Ave. exit and head east. Continue until Civic Center Drive. (Washington Hospital will be on your right). Turn Left on Civic Center Drive which will lead you into a driveway and a set office buildings. Go straight past the 2 level parking structure and turn left at the next driveway. Suite G will be the last suite in the building on your left.

Do I have to pay for my visit at the time of my appointment?
If you have insurance, you will be expected to pay for your co-pay (if applicable) and any unpaid balance at the time of your visit.

How much is my co-pay?
The co-pay amount is usually listed on the front of your card, although not all insurance companies do this. If you are unsure, it is best to call your health plan prior to your appointment.

How do I select one of your doctors as my primary care provider?
Dr. Tsoi is presently limiting his practice to the specialty of cardiology.

How can I get a prescription refilled?
Call your pharmacy and they will contact the office to authorize refills. Refill requests are usually done in 24-48 hours during the week and on Mondays following the weekend. Please do not wait until the day of your last pill to try to get a refill.  Most refills are done electronically through the electronic medical record system in 1-2 working days

How can I find out results to my tests?
If you were referred to the office for a test only, Dr. Tsoi will communicate the results of the test to the ordering physician. For all tests that Dr. Tsoi orders, the office will contact you regarding follow up for all abnormal results. Normal results would be saved for a discussion at your next regular follow up visit.

What do I do in an emergency?
For a life threatening emergency call 911. For non life threatening emergencies you can call the office and either Dr. Tsoi will be contacted by the staff or by the answering service. In the event the office is closed and Dr. Tsoi is not available, there will be an on call cardiologist covering for him who will get back to you.

Who should I contact if I get sick after office hours or on weekends?
If you have a cardiology problem or Dr. Tsoi is your primary physician call the regular office number. You will be directed to the answering service. Dr. Tsoi or the covering physician will be contacted. If your problem is not cardiology related then please contact your primary care physician or the specialist covering that particular problem.

What if I get the answering service during normal business hours?
The answering service handles all calls during lunch, usually from 12-1 everyday. If you reach the anwering service during normal business hours it means that no one is available to answer the phone in four rings so it has forwarded to the anwering service. At this point you can leave a message which will be checked in the next 24 hours, hang up and try again in 15 minutes, or stay on the line and the answering service will assist you. The answering service will page Dr. Tsoi for emergencies and urgent questions only. If you have a medical emergency please call 911 and Dr. Tsoi will be contacted from the emergency room.

What hours does Dr. Tsoi see patients in the office?
Dr. Tsoi sees patients in the office Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays 1:00 to 4:30, Thursday mornings 9:30-11:45. Some procedures are done in the office Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Some procedures can be done in the office without Dr. Tsoi being present and can be scheduled during normal office hours.
